Naissance was founded in Switzerland in 1999 by R. James Breiding and the late Dr. Francois Mayer with the assistance of a few families having considerable means.
James Breiding has considerable experience in investment management, most recently as managing director of Templeton in Switzerland. He served in prior positions as a director of Rothschild Corporate Finance and as vice president of Bank Julius Baer responsible for alternative investments.He is responsible for the day-to-day management of Naissance and for identification and execution of its investment projects.
Dr. Francois Mayer was formerly chief executive of J. Rothschild Holdings (controlled by Lord Jacob Rothschild) and senior executive of other companies owned by the Rothschild family.
Our raison d’ętre is to discover or develop themes having, in our view, the greatest prospects for capital appreciation. We conduct our own research and draw upon the expertise and business relationships of our principals. We aim in this way to create a following among a limited number of sophisticated and substantial investors. Naissance counts some of Switzerland's leading financial institutions and family offices among its investors.
We focus on areas exhibiting a high degree of inefficiency, and therefore where skills and knowledge matter. Good ideas are rare, their successful realisation even more exceptional, so we are very selective as to what we do, and with whom we do it. We do not chart these waters alone, so it is by design that we have teamed up with partners of considerable repute in their respective theatres of activities. Our success, if we have had some, has to a great extent been on account of their support.
Our investors demand impartial and professional advice. We do not, therefore, engage in brokerage, underwriting or any other activity which could compromise our clients’ interests. Adherence to these constraints puts us in rapidly diminishing company.
In Warren Buffett’s words, ‘we eat our own cooking’ by investing our own money in each opportunity. Investment returns are our superior concern and we are fully aware that abundant assets under management compete against, and ultimately defeat this primary objective
